Sometimes, a system gets enough users using FacetTerm that the operating system runs out of pseudo-devices. The following notes describe the procedure to increase the number of pseudo-devices on a DG/UX 5.4 system. For more detailed information on building kernels, please refer to the Customizing the DG/UX System manual, Chapter 11 on Building Kernels.
NOTE: your exact system level may be different than the system level from which these steps were tested on, so some of the prompts and responses may be different.
Follow the steps below to add pseudo-devices to your system. Where <Enter> appears, press your Enter or return key.
At this point you will need to edit the system configuration file that has been selected and either modify or add to the end of the file:
PTYCOUNT total_pty_number
total_pty_number will be replaced by an actual number. The total number to create for FacetTerm is 11 ptys for each FacetTerm user. So if you have an 8 user license, you would need to create a minimum of 88 ptys. Please remember, if you have any other applications that utilize ptys, you will need to add the number of ptys that those applications use into the FacetTerm pty equation.
